Description
Introduction Increasing numbers of Chinese companies are developing connections in Africa with the aim of increasing trade between China and the African continent. However, this relationship between China and Africa has not happened without tension. The aim of this paper is to analyze how the increasing numbers of Chinese companies in Africa impact China-Africa relations. Questions related to this development and its consequences are being raised. Is China Africa's neo colonial power? Are China and African relations tension-free? What would China and Africa gain from the advancement of this relationship? How is the behavior of African states affected by the manner in which they receive financial support from China? How are the human rights practices of African governments affected by the conditions associated with Chinese aid? The paper presents an overview of China-African relations in the past, China's aid programme to Africa, the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, China's trade relations with Africa, with special emphasis on natural resources and the export market for Chinese products and investments in Africa as well as the controversy over China in Africa.
